Overview.
Rigest: leading UK suppliers & distributors of sodium lactate
Sodium lactate is the sodium salt of lactic acid. It is produced by fermentation of a sugar source, such as corn or beets, with the resulting lactic acid neutralised. Sodium lactate is a safe preservative with a high water-holding capacity and buffering properties; ideal for food and personal care uses.
We supply sodium lactate in 25L, 200L, 1000L and bulk containers to businesses across the UK. Get in touch with Rigest’s team of product experts to discuss your exact needs and requirements.
Sodium lactate’s uses: multifunctional, high-performance food additive
Sodium lactate is a preservative, pH regulator, emulsifier, antioxidant, humectant, bulking agent and flavour enhancer. This makes it suitable for use in the production of a wide variety of products, covering food, beverage, healthcare and animal feeds, in particular in cooked meats. It can increase shelf life and prevent water separation.
Despite its name, sodium lactate is not chemically similar to lactose, and so doesn’t pose an issue to those with related intolerances.
An effective buffering agent, humectant and with good resistance to temperature, sodium lactate also holds application in personal care and cosmetics formulations, including shampoos, liquid soaps and skin care products. It also has some specific healthcare and pharmaceutical applications.
